Our Inspiration
Cancer does not discriminate. It will affect 1 in 3 people.
On February 2, 2001, our friend Pam Herts lost her battle with breast cancer.
She was 31 years old and left behind a one-year-old son who would never know his mother. She was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a co-worker, and a friend.
She is our inspiration.
Inspired by Pam's fight, we are united by the common goal to make a difference in the fight against cancer. We realized this disease has touched everyone in our small group of friends individually. So, we decided collectively, in our own small way, we would do something about it.
In 2001, The H Foundation was created to help fund the research to find a cure for cancer as a tribute to Pam, but it has grown to be so much more. Soon after, we partnered with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
By targeting our support toward "seed-funding" and "idea grants" in this area, The H Foundation could provide the much-needed financing for early research ideas that build into research results.
Unfortunately, stories like Pam's are too common.
